5 Essential Herbs for Wellness
The world is a little chaotic right now. We have been in a pandemic since the end of 2019, eggs are 10 dollars a carton, and rent is ridiculous. Reliable health care is still not the norm for the majority, which leaves people with mental health care needs in a very vulnerable position. Emotional healthcare should be available to each person that needs it, but our current state of medical care does not consider mental health a priority. Lately, we have seen an influx in conversations surrounding mental health, but there is still much work to be done. Even with the lack of mental health support, we are still expected to be a productive part of society and many of us are mentally exhausted. The recommended treatment for mental health conditions is medications and talk therapy, which does work, but can holistic medications help as well (Colorado School of Herbal Medicine)? Personally, I find that certain herbs do help with my overall emotional health, and will be sharing different herbs each month to coordinate with the monthly topic. January is all about emotional wellness, therefore I will be sharing with you five herbs that can help with your mental wellness. As always please consult your medical provider before trying any herbs or treatment methods discussed here at Wellness by Le’Shun.
Stay Magical,

1. Ashwagandha- If you are looking for an herb that REALLY packs a punch then ashwagandha is the perfect herb for you. This is a neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, and adaptogen that promotes physical and mental health by supporting vitality, strength, rejuvenation, and endurance. This herb may help to rejuvenate the nervous system and enhance the body’s resilience to stress.
2. Motherwort- Do you have problems sleeping at night? Most of us have heard of melatonin, which is awesome as well, but motherwort is another herb that can help with melancholy, restlessness, and sleep issues.
3. Reishi Mushroom- Reishi mushroom is a mushroom that nourishes the spirit. It induces a state of peace and focus, relaxes the nervous system, and calms the mind. Reishi is known as the ‘spiritual awakening’ herb. It helps you get out of your head and into your heart by activating a connection with one’s higher potential and showing us the way to spiritual abundance.
4. Sage- Sage is an antibacterial herb that does more than make dressing taste good. Sage is loaded with antioxidants, which support memory and brain function. Sage smudging can help lift spirits by removing negative energy. Burning sage is an ancient and spiritual ritual that has been around for thousands of years. Sage is also known to boost cognitive function, improve sleep habits, and soothe everyday stress.
5. Mugwort- Funny name, but a very serious herb that can be used to help alleviate stress, boost energy, improve sleep, and may help with menstrual issues.
