5 Self- Love Herbs

February is considered the month of love and romance, but here at Wellness by Le’Shun we want to flip that narrative and focus on self-love. Self-love is all about connecting with your inner peace and doing what makes you feel happy, safe, and loved. We should not depend on others to love us; we should find joy and compassion for ourselves as well as others. Even if you are in a happy healthy relationship self-love is still a must. So take some time this month and EVERY month to dote on you. Something as simple as brewing a cup of love tea and sitting with your TimeOUT journal is a way to promote self-love.

Take a moment for yourself, you deserve it.

Happy Love Month my Beauties!!

Five Self- Love Herbs

1.      Rose is famously known as the flower of romance because it connects with the heart chakra. But this chakra also governs your ability to love yourself unconditionally and helps you to heal from old emotional wounds (which is what creates blockages in the first place). Use food grade roses in a tea blend or aromatherapy!

2.       Hibiscus!! Such a pretty flower with a long history. This herb has several healing benefits and consuming food safe hibiscus can aid in relaxation, increase feelings of joy, and help you let go of negative thoughts, which all improves self-love and focus. Brew a batch of this power tea and take a moment to redirect your intentions on your self-love and happiness.

3.      Turmeric golden and sophisticated is a super herb that can be used to treat a lot of health issues including skin care, digestive health, support fat metabolism, promotes a positive mood, and improved sleep pattern. Turmeric is that all around herb that can be used in so many different ways, plus is readily available at your local grocery store!!

4.      Jasmine, more than a pretty name!! This classic flower is a natural anti-depressant and mood stabilizer. Jasmine is especially ideal for women to support happy hormones, strong self-confidence, and good overall mental health. Jasmine can also increase passion and creativity. Use it in a soothing bath as aromatherapy right before bed to help you unwind after a long day. It smells as beautiful as it sounds.

5.      Calendula, another beautiful, sunny flower that has been used for medicinal, cosmetic, and emotional healing purposes since the Ancient Egyptian times. Simmer fresh herbs in a carrier oil such as almond oil, jojoba, olive oil, or rose hip oil for a natural skin brighter that really works. Dried herbs can also be added to a bath to increase confidence. We all know that self-love starts with self-esteem. Use this herb when you need a boost to your overall confidence so that you can continue to conquer the world!!

Calendula-Infused Herbal Oil Recipe

This all-purpose oil can be used in so many ways. Use it alone or as ingredient in salves, massage oils, lip balms, creams, and lotions. It has a neutral scent and can be incorporated in your self-care routine flawless!!

Ingredients:

Organic calendula flowers

Carrier Oil of your choice (almond oil, jojoba, olive oil, or rose hip oil for a natural skin)

Directions:

1. Fill a glass jar 2/3 of the way full with dried calendula flowers. If using fresh calendula, wilt for 12 hours to remove most of the moisture (too much moisture will cause the oil to go rancid) before adding to the jar.

2. Pour olive oil into the jar, making sure to cover the flowers by at least one inch with oil so they will have space to expand.

3. Stir well and cap the jar tightly.

4. Place the jar in a warm, sunny windowsill and shake once or more daily.

5. After 4 to 6 weeks, strain the herbs out using cheesecloth.

6. Pour the infused oil into glass bottles and store in a cool, dark place.

I prefer to infuse oils utilizing the solar or folk method described above, but you can also infuse oils by applying heat if you need the oil quickly.
